I’m Paul Walsh, a web designer based in Blackburn, Lancashire. I help small businesses with website design, WordPress and Shopify support, website fixes, and practical SEO improvements.
I work directly with clients — no account managers, no handoffs, no agency overhead. Just straightforward, practical help from one person who knows what he is doing and why it matters.
Most web designers understand websites from a design or development perspective. I understand them from a business perspective first — because for the last 20 years, websites have been how I made my living.
I have built multiple ecommerce businesses from scratch, grown them, and sold them. All online, all built on the kind of platforms — WordPress, WooCommerce, Shopify — that I now help small businesses use every day. Every website I built for those businesses had to perform. It had to convert visitors into customers, build trust with people who had never heard of the brand, load fast enough not to lose people, and hold up under real commercial pressure.
That experience shapes how I approach every project I work on. I am not thinking about how a website looks in a portfolio. I am thinking about whether it will actually work for the business behind it — whether it will generate enquiries, build trust, and do its job properly over time.
I focus on small businesses because that is where I can make the most difference. A sole trader or small local business does not have an in-house developer, a marketing team, or a budget for a large agency. What they need is someone who understands their situation, gives them honest advice, and gets things done properly without overcomplicating it.
I have been that business owner. I know what it feels like to have a website that is not doing its job and not know why, or to get a quote from an agency that is completely disconnected from what you actually need. I try to be the opposite of that — direct, practical, and focused on what will genuinely help.
I work from home, keep my costs low, and pass that on in my pricing. You are not paying for office space, sales teams or account management layers. You are paying for the work itself, done properly by someone who has real skin in the game when it comes to understanding what a good business website needs to do.
My work covers four main areas:
- Web design — new websites and redesigns for small businesses that need a clear, professional online presence
- Website fixes — practical updates, improvements and repairs for WordPress and Shopify sites that are not working as they should
- SEO — on-page SEO improvements, page structure, and local SEO support for businesses that want better visibility in search
- Local SEO in Blackburn — helping local businesses show up properly for the searches that matter in their area
I am based in Blackburn, Lancashire, and work with businesses locally across East Lancashire and throughout the UK. Most work is done remotely, so location is rarely a barrier.
I try to keep things simple and honest. That means:
- telling you what I actually think rather than what sounds good
- recommending what will help, not what will make the project bigger
- communicating clearly and responding promptly
- doing the work properly rather than just getting it done
- being straightforward about pricing — see my website pricing page for a clear guide
I am not the right fit for every project. If you need a large agency with a full team, enterprise software, or a very large budget spend, there are better options. But if you need someone who understands small business, knows these platforms inside out, and will give you honest practical help without the overhead — I would be a good fit.
If you want to discuss a project or just ask a question, the easiest way is to get in touch directly.
