Paul the Handyman

How I designed and built the Paul the Handyman website in Blackburn, with local service pages, supporting content and the local SEO work behind it.

Pick a design

Each trade has three designs, built around the services, wording and calls to action that trade needs. Open any of them full screen, then message me the one you like.

What's on your site

Every trade site is a single, well-organised page with the sections customers look for, in the order they look for them:

  • What you do In plain words at the top, with the towns you cover, so the visitor knows straight away they're in the right place.
  • Your services Each with a short description and a "from" price if you want one.
  • Why you With your years in the trade, your guarantee and your accreditations, such as your Gas Safe, NICEIC or TrustMark details, shown where people can see them.
  • Photos of your work Because a picture of a finished bathroom does more selling than any paragraph.
  • Reviews Pulled from what customers have already said about you.
  • Areas covered Named properly so local searches pick them up.
  • Contact With WhatsApp and text buttons that open straight onto your phone, and a form that reaches your inbox.

How it works

  1. Pick a design from the table above.
  2. Send your details by WhatsApp, text or email: services, the areas you cover, any prices, and photos of your work.
  3. Check the preview. I write the content, add your details and send you a link. Ask for any changes before it goes live.
  4. Go live. Your site is up within 3 to 5 working days, set up so Google can find it, and linked to your Google Business Profile.

Why it works for trades

  • Built for how trades get work Most of your customers find you on a phone, often when something has just gone wrong. Every section makes it easy to message you, and the services and areas you cover are spelled out, so people searching locally find you.
  • Fast and light No bloated page builders. Clean code that loads quickly on a phone signal, which matters to customers and to Google.
  • SEO set up from day one Page title, description, headings, local business details and your service area are done properly before launch, not left for later. The site is submitted to Google Search Console so it gets picked up quickly.
  • Written by someone who gets it I run a property maintenance business myself, so I know what customers ask before they book and what makes them pick one trade over another. Your site answers those questions.
  • One person You deal with me from start to finish, by WhatsApp, text or email, and you can reply when you're off the tools.

Mistakes I see on trade websites

  • No way to message A phone number alone loses the customer who's at work and can't call. A WhatsApp button doesn't.
  • No areas named If your site doesn't say you cover Darwen, Google has no reason to show you to someone in Darwen.
  • A Facebook page instead of a website Fine for photos, but it rarely shows up for "electrician near me", and you don't control it. See do I need a website if I have social media.
  • Hidden credentials If you're Gas Safe registered or NICEIC approved, say so near the top. It's often the reason someone picks you.

Want more than one page?

The trade site, from £199, is a single page that covers everything you do, and for many sole traders it's all they need. If you want to rank for each of your services separately, such as "boiler service Blackburn" and "bathroom fitting Darwen", you need a page for each one. That's the multi-page website, from £699. See web design in Blackburn for what's included, and you can upgrade from the trade site later.

Want to climb the map results? Local SEO sorts your Google Business Profile, reviews and page titles. The Paul the Handyman site, built with a page for each service, ranks for searches like "handyman Blackburn" and "property maintenance Blackburn".

Questions

What do I need to send you?

Your business name, the services you offer, the towns you cover, your prices if you want them shown, any accreditation numbers, and photos of your work. A WhatsApp message with the basics is enough to start.

Do I have to write anything?

No. Tell me what you do and where, and I'll write it. You check it before anything goes live.

I get most of my work through Checkatrade or Facebook. Do I still need a website?

Those are worth keeping, but they're rented. You pay for the leads, you're listed next to your competitors, and the rules can change overnight. Your own site is the one place customers see only you, and it's where your Google Business Profile, your van and your quotes can all point.

Should I put prices on my website?

Where you can, yes. "From" prices for your common jobs, such as a tap repair or a consumer unit change, put off the time-wasters and reassure the people ready to book. Bigger jobs can say "free quote" instead.

What about hosting?

Hosting and a domain are about £60 a year and aren't included in the build price. The care plan, from £20 a month, includes hosting, updates and small edits if you'd rather not think about it.

How do I pay?

50% to start and 50% when you've approved the site, by bank transfer. There's no VAT on top.

Can I change the colours or add pages?

Small tweaks to colours and wording are part of the job. If you need a page for each service, the multi-page website, from £699, is the better fit, and the one-page site can be upgraded later.

My trade isn't listed. Can you still help?

Yes. The designs suit most trades and local services, such as roofers, cleaners, joiners, plasterers and landscapers. Message me what you do.
