PHP 8 compatibility, moving to the latest 3.0.x release, OpenCart 4 moves, hosting moves

If your host is upgrading PHP, check this first. Your OpenCart version is shown at the bottom of every admin page, and your host can tell you the PHP version.
| OpenCart version | PHP versions |
|---|---|
| Before 3.0.3.9 | Not compatible with PHP 8 |
| 3.0.3.9 to 3.0.4.1 | PHP 7.3 to 8.3 |
| 3.0.5.0 | PHP 8.1 to 8.4 |
| 4.1.0.0 to 4.1.0.3 | PHP 8.0.2 or newer |
| 4.1.0.4 | PHP 8.1 or newer |
If your store is older than 3.0.3.9 and the host is moving you to PHP 8, it needs work before the switch, not after. Extensions matter too: an extension that hasn't been updated can break the store even when OpenCart itself is compatible.
Some problems need more than a single fix. These get their own quote:
Most OpenCart stores I'm asked about don't need replacing. If the store takes orders, your customers know it and Google ranks it, fixing what's broken and getting it onto a supported PHP version is almost always cheaper and less risky than starting again. Moving to WooCommerce or Shopify makes sense when the store needs rebuilding anyway, or when the extensions you depend on are no longer maintained. I'll tell you which it is before you spend anything.
If you're copying orders into other systems by hand, that can usually be automated: orders into Sage or Xero, and labels from Royal Mail Click & Drop, DPD or Evri. That's API integration work, quoted from a short written spec.
On WooCommerce rather than OpenCart? See WooCommerce fixes. For Shopify stores, see Shopify fixes.
OpenCart 3 (the 3.0 releases) and OpenCart 4. You'll find your exact version at the bottom of any page in the admin. If you're on something older, message me the version anyway and I'll tell you honestly what's possible.
Not to quote. Once you've agreed the price, I'll need an admin login and usually FTP or hosting access too, because many OpenCart problems live in files, extensions and error logs the admin can't reach. You can create logins just for me and remove them when the job's done.
Usually neither. Most stores are best fixed and kept on OpenCart, because your products, customers, orders and Google rankings are all there and moving platform is a big job. I'll recommend an upgrade when your PHP version forces it, and only suggest moving if the extensions you rely on have been abandoned and the store needs rebuilding anyway.
Usually not. Where a fix carries any risk, I test it on a copy of the store first, or do it at a quiet time you choose. Your shop keeps taking orders while I work.
I'll tell you what's involved and give you a price before doing anything. You decide whether to go ahead.
No. I back up the files and the database before changing anything, and I never delete orders or customers.
