What's included

  • Hosting Your site runs on hosting I manage, so there's one person to message when anything goes wrong, rather than a support queue and a ticket number.
  • WordPress and plugin updates, checked by a person Updates are where most WordPress sites break. I back the site up, run the updates, then check the pages, the forms and, on a shop, the checkout still work. Automatic updates with nobody checking afterwards are how most of the broken sites I fix got that way. See what can go wrong after plugin updates.
  • Security monitoring I keep an eye out for problems such as failed logins, out-of-date plugins with known holes and changes nobody made, so they get caught early, not when a customer tells you the site is down.
  • Small content edits Message me what you want changed, such as a price, your opening hours, a new photo or a short news post, and I'll sort it.
  • General support Questions about your site, your domain or your emails, answered in plain English.

What a month looks like

You don't have to do anything. Behind the scenes:

  1. Updates are run after a backup, with the site checked once they're done.
  2. Forms are checked so enquiries are still reaching you, because a contact form that silently stops working is one of the most expensive problems a small business site can have.
  3. The basics are checked: the site loads, the security certificate is valid and nothing is blocking Google.
  4. Anything odd gets fixed before it becomes a problem, and if something needs your decision, I message you.

Any time you want a change, you message me and it's done.

Why it's worth it

Most of the broken sites I fix weren't hacked or badly built. They just hadn't been looked after. A plugin got updated with nothing checked afterwards, or nothing got updated for two years until the host upgraded the server and the old plugins stopped working. A single emergency fix often costs more than a year of looking after the site properly.

If you'd rather do it yourself, use the monthly maintenance checklist and the update checklist, and read do small businesses need ongoing website support?

Who it's for

The care plan is for small businesses whose website matters but who don't want to think about it: trades whose enquiries come through the site, shops that need the checkout working, and anyone who's been burnt by a site that broke without warning. It suits sites I've built and sites built by someone else.

It isn't for large or complex sites, such as membership platforms or very busy shops. Those need a plan sized to the site, quoted separately.

What's not included

Bigger changes, such as new pages, redesigns, new features or a store migration, get a fixed quote first, so the monthly price stays simple. If something on the site was already broken before you joined, I'll quote to fix it first rather than hide it in the monthly fee.

Already broken?

If something needs fixing now, start with WordPress fixes or WooCommerce fixes, fixed price from £49 per fix. Once it's working, the care plan keeps it that way.

Questions

What counts as a small edit?

Things like changing prices, opening hours, text or a photo, or adding a short news post. Bigger jobs such as new pages or design changes get a fixed quote first.

Is there a contract?

No. It's month to month. Stop whenever you like, and you keep your site.

Is hosting really included?

Yes. Your site runs on hosting I manage, so there's one person responsible for the whole thing. That replaces the hosting you pay for now.

Can I keep my current hosting?

The plan is built around hosting I manage, because that's what lets me fix things quickly. If you'd rather stay where you are, message me with your host and I'll tell you honestly what I can cover.

Can I join if you didn't build my site?

Yes. I check the site first. If it has problems already, I'll tell you up front and quote to fix them before the plan starts, so you're not paying monthly for a site that's already broken.

Does it cover WooCommerce stores?

Yes. Updates on a shop matter even more, because a broken checkout costs you sales, so I check the basket and checkout after updates as well as the pages.

What if the site breaks anyway?

Message me. Problems caused by an update I ran are mine to put right.

What happens if I leave?

You keep everything. I'll move the site to the hosting of your choice, or hand over a full copy with the database, so there's no lock-in.

Still broken? I'll fix it.
