I designed and built the Paul the Handyman website, created supporting content, and carried out the local SEO work to help improve visibility for local handyman searches in Blackburn and surrounding areas.

This project is a good example of the type of work I do for small local businesses that need a professional website and better local search visibility.

The Brief

Paul the Handyman needed a website that looked professional, clearly explained the services on offer, and gave the business a stronger chance of being found by local customers searching online.

The goal was not just to put up a basic brochure website. The aim was to build a site with the right structure for local SEO, support it with useful content, and create a stronger foundation for long-term rankings and enquiries.

What I Did

For this project, I handled:

  • website design and build
  • page structure and navigation
  • service page content
  • supporting blog content
  • local SEO improvements
  • internal linking and on-page SEO work

The focus was on building a site that was clear, practical and locally relevant rather than over-designed or filled with fluff.

Website Design & Build

The website was designed to give the business a clean, trustworthy online presence and make it easy for potential customers to understand what services were available.

The build focused on:

  • a simple, professional layout
  • clear service information
  • easy navigation
  • strong calls to action
  • pages targeted around real local services

For small service businesses, the website does not need to be complicated. It needs to look credible, load properly, explain the offer clearly, and make it easy for someone to get in touch.

Local SEO Approach

The SEO work focused on giving the site a stronger local presence and helping it compete for relevant searches in Blackburn.

This included:

  • improving page titles and meta descriptions
  • building out relevant service content
  • strengthening local keyword targeting
  • improving internal linking between pages
  • making the site more locally relevant for search intent
  • supporting the main service pages with additional content

The aim was to help Google better understand what the business offers, where it operates, and which local searches the site should be relevant for.

Supporting Content

Alongside the core website pages, I also created supporting content to help strengthen the site overall.

This content was used to:

  • support the main service pages
  • build topical relevance
  • target related local search terms
  • improve internal linking opportunities

For many small business websites, this step gets ignored. A few well-targeted supporting pages can make a big difference over time when they are tied back properly to the main commercial pages.

The Result

The site has gone on to achieve strong visibility for local handyman-related searches in Blackburn and now ranks prominently for relevant terms.

This project shows the value of combining:

  • a properly built website
  • clear service pages
  • local SEO fundamentals
  • supporting content
  • consistent structure and internal linking

Instead of relying on guesswork or shortcuts, the website was built on practical foundations that support long-term local search performance.

This project started from scratch, with the website launching on 16 August 2025. By late March 2026, the site had already achieved strong visibility across a range of Blackburn and surrounding-area search terms, showing the impact of a properly structured website, local service pages, and ongoing content support.

The Google Search Console screenshot below shows a clear upward trend in impressions over the last 7 months since the site was launched, indicating that the site is gaining more visibility in Google search results. This reflects the cumulative effect of improved site structure, local service pages, and ongoing content published to support relevant local searches.

Why This Matters

A lot of small businesses either have no proper website at all, or they have a basic site that was never built with SEO or lead generation in mind.

This project is a good example of how a small local business can benefit from a website that is built properly from the start and supported with the right SEO work.
