OpenCart Shipping with Royal Mail Click & Drop, DPD and Evri
By Paul Walsh Updated 4 min read
There are three ways to connect an OpenCart store to Royal Mail Click & Drop, DPD or Evri: an extension from the OpenCart Marketplace, which suits a single carrier and a standard setup; a multi-channel shipping tool, which suits shops selling on several channels; or a custom integration with the carrier's own API, which suits busy shops, several carriers or rules a ready-made extension can't follow. Whichever you choose, check it supports your exact OpenCart version first.
Option 1: an OpenCart Marketplace extension
Extensions are the quickest way to stop copying addresses into a carrier's website. The OpenCart Marketplace lists each extension's compatible OpenCart versions, and that list matters: an extension built for OpenCart 3 won't run on OpenCart 4, and some haven't been updated for the newest releases.
Royal Mail Click & Drop
These Click & Drop extensions are listed on the OpenCart Marketplace (versions as listed on 31 October 2026):
- Royal Mail Click and Drop API OC 3x, by OCplus, for OpenCart 3.0.0.0 to 3.0.5.0. It sends orders to Click & Drop, either chosen by you or automatically once they reach a status such as "Awaiting Post", then pulls the tracking number back to your store and emails it to the customer.
- Royal Mail Click and Drop API, by OCplus, for OpenCart 4.0.0.0 to 4.1.0.4. It does the same job on OpenCart 4, with preset parcel sizes such as Large Letter or Small Parcel.
- Royal Mail Click & Drop Lite, by modulesaurus, for OpenCart 3.0.0.0 to 3.0.4.1. A lightweight extension that sends an order to Click & Drop, ready for you to pay for postage and print the label.
For how Click & Drop's API works, see the Royal Mail Click & Drop API guide. For choosing between Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 automatically, see Royal Mail Tracked 24 and 48 via the API.
DPD
Searching the OpenCart Marketplace for DPD brings up several extensions built for DPD in other countries, such as Slovakia, Hungary and the Baltic states. Those may not work with DPD UK, so check an extension says it does before buying. For how the DPD UK API works, see the DPD API integration guide, and for tracking, DPD tracking API integration.
Evri
Evri (formerly Hermes UK) merged with DHL's UK ecommerce business in a deal completed in October 2025. These Evri extensions are listed on the OpenCart Marketplace:
- EVRi CSV Export, by HuntBee Services, for OpenCart 3.0.0.0 to 3.0.5.0. It exports orders as a file you upload to Evri's own website. It saves typing, but you still upload the file yourself, and the listing doesn't mention bringing tracking numbers back.
- Evri Shipping – Weight-Based Rates, by OpencartExtensions, for OpenCart 4.1.0.4. It adds Evri delivery options to your checkout with your own weight-based prices. It shows prices to customers; it doesn't create labels.
For a direct connection to Evri, see the Evri API integration guide and Evri tracking API integration.
Before you buy any extension: check its compatibility list includes your exact OpenCart version, look at when it was last updated, and test it on a copy of your store first.
Option 2: a multi-channel shipping tool
If you sell on several channels, such as your OpenCart store plus marketplaces, a multi-channel order and shipping tool can pull orders from all of them into one place and print labels for several carriers. They're often the most practical choice for shops that sell in lots of places, because shipping is handled once, not per channel.
Check that the tool lists OpenCart as a supported channel, which OpenCart versions it supports, and which carriers and services it can book.
Option 3: a custom integration with the carrier's API
A custom integration connects your store directly to the carrier's API. Orders become shipments automatically, labels come back as PDF or for a thermal printer, tracking numbers are saved to the order and sent to the customer, and the service is chosen by your rules, such as weight, destination or the delivery option the customer picked.
It's worth it when:
- you ship with more than one carrier and want each order sent to the right one automatically, such as large letters with Royal Mail and next-day parcels with DPD
- you send a lot of parcels, so the minutes per order add up
- your rules don't fit an extension, such as different services for different products or customers
- no extension supports your OpenCart version or the carrier service you use
For the services and prices, see Royal Mail API integration, DPD API integration and Evri API integration. For what each build costs, see the Royal Mail, DPD and Evri cost guides.
Which carrier?
If you're still choosing, see the best shipping APIs for UK shops, DPD vs Royal Mail and Evri vs DPD. In short: Royal Mail for letters, large letters and every UK address, DPD for next-day delivery with a one-hour window, and Evri for low-cost standard delivery.
Before you connect anything
Make sure your OpenCart store is on a version the extension or integration supports, and that it's working properly: orders reaching the right status, order emails going out, and the checkout working. If the store needs work first, see OpenCart fixes.
